Camco 00873 Universal Receptacle Block Kit



It's alive... and hot.
This kit is exactly what I needed to bring back to life my ancient 300 year old Kenmore range/stove top/etc. Comes with two sets of clips for the plugs as well as some white heat shrink and some basic instructions.

Last time I had our stove block replaced, it cost over $100. Did it myself for the price of this item. Great! My one complaint is that the screw to attach block is not included...the old screw/block hole size was different..so I had to go to the hardware store and get a screw and nut. No big deal, but for a few cents more, they could've included the proper screw.

Acceptable, but not the best
Electric stove-top coils produce a lot of heat. Eventually, the receptacles for these coils deteriorate from the heat, and have to be replaced -- generally after quite a few years or use.

These cost less than similar receptacles at a leading hardware chain, were in stock, and were delivered in a few days. They came with all the necessary hardware, and if you are careful, and make sure the power is turned off while you are working, fairly easy to install.

The problem is that the plastic in the main body of these receptacles broke down from the heat in a matter of months, and the contacts that "grab" the end of the coils loosened. It became tricky to replace the coil after removing it to clean under and around it. The coil became unreliable, and sometimes sparked.

I've had better results and longevity with the more expensive units at the local store, but if you are very careful when removing and replacing the coils into the recepticle, you may have...
