Filtrete- Always The Better Choice
Wouldn't it be nice if a furnace filter freshened the air in your whole house? Well, I like this filter but I can't claim that my home smells any better than it did.

I switched to the Filtrete brand of filters years ago when I discovered how much better they worked than the cheapie, flimsy filters you can buy anywhere. Maybe my house is excessively dusty, I have to change the filter at the six week mark. I couldn't get the whole promised three months between replacements. But that's a small quibble to get better filtering.

So I expected this filter to perform as well as, if not better than the mid-priced Filtretes I normally use. And it did, maybe even slightly better as far as dust is concerned. Be advised- when I removed the plastic wrapper a small amount of what I presume is charcoal leaked onto the floor. So, do unwrap outside or expect to vacuum afterwards.

I would be happy to recommend this filter to my friends, even if it doesn't work miracles.

It broke the air conditioner capacitor after 48 hours
We replaced our usual inexpensive filter in the furnace/blower with this on Tuesday. Today is Thursday, and the repair man has just left. The capacitor on our air conditioner blew out today, and at first he suspected an overly-clogged furnace filter, but saw it was this Filtrete Odor Reduction filter instead. He was very nice about it, since at first he thought our warranty did not cover the repair because this was considered "our fault" for using an inappropriate filter. But I had the product label which indicated it should be perfectly safe for our system. It was not, obviously. He didn't charge us (yet) and took the label with him to have the repair company check into it tomorrow during business hours. If he calls back I'll update this review with what he says.

We have a small house, 1000 square feet. The furnace is a 1996 Lennox WhisperHeat, and the air conditioner is a 2010 Amana rated for houses of 1400 square feet or less. Both were serviced within the last year...

nice filter
I live on a farm so there is a lot of dust and "odors" that come with that lifestyle. I really liked the difference this filter made, especially now during the summer when we are shut up with A/C going nonstop.
